Viewing detailed scan results

To view detailed scan results:

  1. Open the context menu by right-clicking the Kaspersky Security Scan icon located in the notification area of the Microsoft Windows taskbar.
  2. In the context menu, select View scan results.

    The Scan results window opens.

  3. To view a detailed report, select one of the following sections:
    • Malware contains a detailed report about malicious programs detected on your computer.
    • System protection contains a detailed report about the protection status of your computer's operating system. The report tells you:
      • Whether an anti-virus application and firewall are running on your computer, and what their status is.
      • Whether the anti-virus databases of the anti-virus application installed on the computer are current.

If the anti-virus databases are outdated, a corresponding message appears in the report.

    • Other issues – the section contains a detailed report about potential problems related to the operating system settings.

If you consider any problem in this section to be irrelevant, select it in the list and click the Ignore button button. You can ignore all problems in this section. Kaspersky Security Scan does not take into account ignored problems when displaying general scan results. Ignored problems are moved to the Ignored problems section.

    • Ignored problems contains a detailed report about problems that you ignored earlier.

If you want to return a problem to the Other issues section, select one in the list and click the Do not ignore button button.

To rescan detected problems, click the Re-check list button.

After viewing a scan report, you might want to take action to protect your computer:

  • If a computer scan has revealed that an anti-virus application and/or firewall is not installed on your computer, you are advised to buy an anti-virus application.
  • If the scan has detected viruses, and no anti-virus application is installed on your computer, we recommend that you use the trial version of Kaspersky Internet Security.
  • If the scan detected a virus and an anti-virus application is already installed on your computer, we recommend that you use Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool.

Unlike Kaspersky Internet Security, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool disinfects a computer that has already been infected, but does not ensure real-time protection against threats.

  • If the scan detected other problems, we recommend that you use Kaspersky Internet Security, which provides real-time protection for your computer and helps to solve other issues.

For detailed information about how Kaspersky Internet Security protects your computer against threats, please refer to the web page on this application.

The first step in resolving detected problems is to click the green button located in the upper right part of the Scan results window.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The 2021 Tom's Guide Awards have been announced, and Kaspersky Total Security has won Best Antivirus Software. Head to the Tom's Guide Awards 2021 Best Products for Working From Home page to see all the winners and recommended runners-up.

From the entry-level Kaspersky Anti-Virus to the top shelf Kaspersky Total Security, Kaspersky's Windows antivirus programs protect you from online dangers with local scanning and cloud-based machine-learning.

The top-tier program, Kaspersky Total Security, has a password manager, great parental controls, a hardened browser for online transactions and innovative stalkerware protection.

While its malware scanner did let a few potential threats through, it’s a step ahead of the pack with fast speeds that have only minimal impact on your computer's operation. The only downside is that unlimited access to Kaspersky's Secure Connection VPN service costs an extra $30 a year.

Nonetheless, we think Kaspersky Total Security is the best antivirus program you can buy right now, although not everyone needs all its features. Read on for the rest of our Kaspersky 2021 review to see if it’s right for you.

Kaspersky 2021: Costs and what's covered

Kaspersky's 2021 Windows lineup offers the traditional Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security programs, plus three Security Cloud services, one of them free. They all use the same malware-scanning engine but differ on extra features.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus is for Windows only, and its password manager is limited to 15 sets of credentials. It also protects against stalkerware, quasi-legal spyware that business partners or jealous lovers can use to monitor you. It costs $60 per year for  three PCs or $80 for five, a bit more than Bitdefender's comparable Antivirus Plus. Nonetheless, we reckon it's the best Windows 10 antivirus software out there.

Kaspersky Internet Security covers three devices for $80 per year or five for $90. It adds a two-way firewall, anti-tracking defenses, webcam protection and the Safe Money hardened browser. We've done separate reviews forKaspersky Internet Security for Mac andKaspersky Mobile Antivirus for Android, but you also get them with Internet Security and Kaspersky's other multi-platform packages.

Kaspersky Total Security adds file encryption, file shredding and file protection in case of from ransomware attack. It includesKaspersky Safe Kids Premium (we've reviewed that separately) and an unlimited password manager, and costs $100 per year for five devices or $150 for 10.

Most of Kaspersky's antivirus products limit use of the company's Secure Connection VPN service to 300MB a day. For unlimited VPN data, you'll have to pay an extra $30 per year (inexpensive compared to stand-alone VPN services).

Kaspersky Security Cloud is a server-based option that mates regular antivirus protection with online privacy protections. Overall, its features are not too different from those of Kaspersky Total Security, but Security Cloud may appeal to individuals or families with multiple devices.

Kaspersky Security Cloud Free (also reviewed separately) replaces and improves upon the old Kaspersky Free Antivirus. We think it's the best free antivirus program you can use.

Kaspersky Security Cloud Personal covers three PCs, Macs or Android or iOS devices for $90 per year or five devices for $100, but all must be linked to a single Kaspersky online account. It warns of new devices added to a home network and monitors email addresses for involvement in data breaches. It has an unlimited password manager and ups the VPN data to 500MB per day.

Finally, Kaspersky Security Cloud Family adds parental controls, covers up to 10 devices and lets 10 family members have their own Kaspersky accounts. However, only five of them can have unlimited password managers. It costs $150 per year.

Kaspersky software works with Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 and later or macOS 10.14 Mojave and newer. For phones and tablets, the apps can protect devices with Android 4.4 KitKat or iOS Version 12 or higher.

Allegations that Kaspersky is an arm of the Russian intelligence services have quieted since 2018. None of the claims have been proven and we have yet to see convincing evidence of backdoors or intentional security holes in Kaspersky products. Although Kaspersky's headquarters are still in Moscow, it has moved some online infrastructure to Switzerland.

Kaspersky 2021: Antivirus protection

When a Kaspersky program finds something new and potentially dangerous, the item is uploaded to the Kaspersky Security Network lab for assessment. New malware definitions are sent to the company's 400 million users several times per day. If you don't want your system uploading data to Kaspersky, you can opt out while installing the software or in the program's settings.

All Kaspersky paid apps defend Windows' Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) from bootkit malware and also guard against fileless attacks. The program's Application Control lets you choose which programs to allow.

Kaspersky's Gaming mode silences security warnings and updates during games or movies and can automatically start up when a full-screen app is launched.

For a seriously infected system that doesn't respond to the traditional malware tools, Kaspersky's Rescue Disk can reboot the system in Linux to give it a thorough cleaning. You have to download the software and install it on a USB flash drive.

Kaspersky 2021: Antivirus performance

Kaspersky's malware scanner continues to provide excellent protection from a variety of attacks, new and old.

In the November-December 2020 round of testing by Germany's AV-Test lab, Kaspersky detected 100 percent of both new "zero-day" and well-known "widespread" malware and had just one "false positive" detection of benign software. Most of the other antivirus brands we review, including Bitdefender, Norton and Microsoft, also had clean sweeps.

Malware detection rates AV-Test zero-day AV-Test widespread AV-Comparatives SE Labs
Bitdefender 100% 100% 99.6% n/a
ESET 100% 100%99.3% n/a
Kaspersky 100% 100%99.7%100%
McAfee 100% 100%98.5%100%
Microsoft 100% 100%99.5%97%
Norton 100% 100%99.5%100%
Sophos100% 100%98.3% 86%
Trend Micro 100% 100%100% 92%

Overall, Kaspersky's track record in AV-Test's monthly evaluations is exemplary. Since January 2017, it has failed to detect 100% of zero-day malware only twice and has never missed any widespread malware. Only Norton beat that record, with a single miss on zero-day malware, but Norton tended to have more false positives.

In evaluations conducted between July and October 2020 by the Austrian lab AV-Comparatives, Kaspersky was 99.7% effective against "real-world" malware (a mix of new and old malware found online) with two false positives.

Bitdefender had a 99.6% percent score and four false positives. Trend Micro had a perfect 100% detection rate but at a cost of a whopping 63 false positives.

London-based SE Labs digs a bit deeper, checking whether antivirus software blocks malware from being installed or merely neutralizes it after installation, and scoring accordingly.

That wasn't a problem for Kaspersky, which got perfect 100% scores in each of SE Labs' quarterly rounds of tests in 2020, the only antivirus brand to do so.

In the October-December 2020 SE Labs round, McAfee also got a perfect score, offsetting a couple of less-than-stellar results earlier in the year. Norton detected 100% of malware but neutralized rather than blocked 1%.

Trend Micro, which consistently does well on the AV-Test and AV-Comparatives tests, let through two pieces of malware to infect the system; Sophos let through a whopping eight. Bitdefender and ESET were not tested.

Kaspersky 2021: Security and privacy features

Each Kaspersky Windows antivirus product has browser extensions for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Internet Explorer to safeguard data typed into websites, warn of phishing attempts and block pop-up ads. Mac users get an extension for Safari as well.

The two-way firewall in Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security lets you create separate rules for different networking hardware. But the audio portion of their webcam protection must be manually managed through Kaspersky's Application Control feature; by contrast, Bitdefender's webcam protection does this automatically.

The Safe Money hardened web browser, best for online shopping and banking, is also part of Internet Security and Total Security. It provides an on-screen keyboard, uses HTTPS website encryption wherever possible and blocks extensions. Bitdefender provides a similar feature with its Safepay browser.

Kaspersky Total Security includes the unlimited Password Manager, which otherwise costs $15 per year. Total Security's Safe Kids parental controls let parents limit a child's screen time, locate mobile phones via GPS, monitors Facebook actions and lets you see in-depth reports on online activities.

Although it falls short of a true backup program, Kaspersky Total Security's Backup and Restore can copy of your system's documents, photos, videos and music and any other files, and can back this data up via FTP.

Kaspersky Total Security's Data Vault uses 56-bit AES encryption to scramble any file so that only a password can open it. Other AV brands are phasing out encryption software, and Kaspersky is one of the last remaining to offer it.

The program's File Shredder can eradicate sensitive or embarrassing material forever. You have the choice of seven erasing techniques, including several used by the U.S. military. Most other antivirus brands that include file shredders don't give you so many options.

The Clean and Optimize features are included in Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security to get rid of unnecessary apps, delete duplicate and temporary files and clear browser histories.

Kaspersky 2021: Performance and system impact

Kaspersky software has full and quick scans, a customizable selective scan, an external-drive scan and a vulnerability scan to find system weaknesses.

To measure the effect Kaspersky Total Security had on system performance, we used our custom Excel benchmark test, which clocks how long a PC takes to match 20,000 names and addresses in a spreadsheet. Our Lenovo ThinkPad T470 test machine had a 2.5GHz Core i5-7200U processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of solid-state storage with 61.2GB of files.

System hit Post-installation Full scan Quick scan
Bitdefender 19% 33% 31%
ESET 2%12% n/a
Kaspersky 12% 26% 22%
McAfee 9% 96% 37%
Norton 5% 51% 22%
Sophos 6% 47% n/a
Trend Micro 4% 57% 35%

Before we installed the Kaspersky software, the ThinkPad T470 took an average of 10.2 seconds to complete the Excel benchmark. The completion time rose to 11.4 seconds after Kaspersky Total Security was installed.

This 12% slowdown is much less than the 19% slowdown Bitdefender Total Security encountered under the same conditions, showing Kaspersky's light touch.

Kaspersky Total Security imposed a small-to-moderate performance hit on our test system. During full scans, the benchmark time rose to an average of 12.9 seconds, 13% slower than the post-installation completion time and 26% slower than the pre-installation baseline.

This was reflected in quick scans as well, with the average benchmark completion time rising to 12.4 seconds, a drop in performance of 9% from the passive score and a 22% performance drop from the baseline.

Those were on a par with Bitdefender Total Security's slowdowns from the post-installation completion time, which were 11% and 10%, respectively. But Bitdefender had a higher slowdown overall; both its full and quick scans had performance drops of more than 30% from the baseline.

Kaspersky Total Security's first full scan took 17 minutes and 34 seconds and looked at 400,571 files, half as long as Bitdefender Total Security's took to examine 1.2 million files. The second time around, Kaspersky Total Security's full scan was very quick, taking just 1 minute and 49 seconds to look at 309,525 files.

Kaspersky's first quick scan took 1:26 to scan 3,381 files, less than half the time Bitdefender's quick scan took. A subsequent Kaspersky quick scan took 1:12 to look at the same number of files.

Kaspersky 2021: Interface

Kaspersky's interface hasn't changed much since the 2020 edition. The eight boxes on the home screen provide access scans, updates, the hardened browser, the password manager, privacy settings and parental controls.

The interface can be confusing, with at least three ways to update Kaspersky's malware definitions. Many pages may not fit your screen and will require scrolling up and down. But the scan severity can be set to Low, Recommended or High, and scans can be easily scheduled for a set time or for every minute, hour, day, week or month.

Kaspersky's Windows Taskbar icon, viewable at the bottom right of your screen, can open the hardened browser. Kaspersky's online My Kaspersky account lets you protect other devices, renew your coverage subscription or read news about computer security. You can set up your Kaspersky account withtwo-factor-authentication for an extra level of security.

Kaspersky: Installation and support

It took us a little less than seven minutes to install Kaspersky Total Security. The beachhead installer asked for our name, email address and preferred language and whether Kaspersky could send us promotional email messages or collect information about our computer.

Thanks to California's new data-privacy law, its residents must agree to a different Terms of Service than other U.S. residents.

Image 1 of 2

Total Security then downloaded the 215MB main installer and set up the full program. At this point, you'll need to pay or enter a promotional code, then create a Kaspersky Security Network online account.

Image 1 of 3
Image 2 of 3
Image 3 of 3

The installer ran a quick scan of my system and made recommendations such as picking which sensitive files to back up.

Kaspersky's paid antivirus software includes 24/7 technical support via telephone, email or online chat. Online self-help materials include articles and decryption tools for several ransomware strains.

Kaspersky 2021 review: Bottom line

While Kaspersky Total Security remains our top choice for the best antivirus program, Norton and Bitdefender's premium programs have caught up in terms of protection and features. All three bring together fast local scans with online malware analysis while not consuming too many system resources.

The only major item Kaspersky Total Security is missing is an unlimited VPN service, something that Bitdefender Premium Security and all Norton 360 packages include.

Those on a budget or who don't have kids may prefer the value-packedBitdefender Antivirus Plus. If money is no objection, and you need identity-theft protection and unlimited VPN service as well as antivirus software, considerNorton 360 with LifeLock.

With five paid programs — from the minimalist Kaspersky Anti-Virus to the online Kaspersky Security Cloud to the flagship Kaspersky Total Security — you can decide what protection and features you need. Think of Kaspersky antivirus software as the best of both worlds: top protection that quietly operates behind the scenes and only alerts you when there's a problem.

Kaspersky Antivirus Review — Is It Safe to Use in 2021?

Kaspersky has an excellent antivirus scanner and real-time malware protection — it caught all of my malware samples during testing.

And it has some great additional protections as well. Its anti-phishing protection was pretty good at detecting risky sites. I also really like Kaspersky’s parental controls, which I think are some of the best around. I also like the Rescue Disc feature that disinfects computers infected with malware, the secure browser and virtual keyboard that make online payments secure, and the premium version of the virtual private network (VPN).

But I’m not too impressed with some of Kaspersky’s additional features. The password manager is ok, but it’s pretty basic — it doesn’t even have essential features like two-factor authentication (2FA) or dark web monitoring, which all of the top password managers in 2021 provide. The system cleanup tools are decent, but competitors like Avira offer far more options for optimizing a computer. The free VPN that comes bundled with all of the plans only provides 200 MB/day, and it lets users connect to only one server (which is also the slowest one). And the Backup and Restore feature is basically a free Dropbox account (Dropbox gives all users 2 GB storage space, so you’re not really getting anything with this feature).

All that said, I still think Kaspersky Total Security is an overall good internet security suite. It has a high-quality antivirus scanner, some really useful features, and pretty affordable pricing. I also think Kaspersky is one of the more transparent antivirus companies out there — since the 2017 allegations that it was working with the Russian government to steal US intelligence data, Kaspersky has moved its data processing centers to Switzerland, opened Transparency Centers around the world, and passed a SOC 2 audit.

Kaspersky offers 3 pricing plans that cover 3-10 devices, it has great first-year discounts, and offers a 30-day money-back guarantee (14-days for UK users).

Kaspersky Full Review

Kaspersky comes with a good antivirus scanner as well as a ton of additional features that can significantly boost your online safety.

Kaspersky is also very easy to use, which makes it a particularly good choice for non-tech-savvy users.

While there are more affordable antiviruses on the market, Kaspersky does offer several competitively priced payment plans and backs each purchase with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Kaspersky Security Features

Antivirus Engine

Kaspersky’s virus scanner uses a virus database as well as cloud-based machine learning to detect all types of malware. When the scan detects something new and potentially malicious, the file is uploaded to Kaspersky’s cloud-based scanner for further analysis. The cloud-based scanner then uses machine learning to identify whether or not the file is actually malware.

Many top antivirus brands also use a combination of signature databases and machine learning, including Norton, McAfee, and Bitdefender. And like these top competitors, Kaspersky also has an excellent malware detection rate — it caught 100% of my malware samples during my tests.

Kaspersky has 5 different types of virus scans:

  • Quick Scan. Scans system startup files, system memory files, and boot sectors.
  • Full Scan. Scans every file, folder, and partitioned sector on your system.
  • Selective Scan. Allows you to scan any drive, file, or folder.
  • Removable Drive Scan. Allows you to scan removable drives, such as USB sticks or portable hard drives.
  • Vulnerability Scan. Scans for vulnerabilities in your system, including out-of-date applications and software exposed to malware.

Kaspersky also offers a wide range of scan-scheduling options, including the options to scan at a specified time, after application startup, and after every update.

To test Kaspersky, I hid nearly 1000 test malware samples on my computer, including viruses, trojans, rootkits, ransomware, and keyloggers. I then ran a “Quick Scan,” which only took 2 minutes to complete. This is pretty quick. For perspective, when I ran a “Quick Scan” on VIPRE, it took 10 minutes — that’s 5 times slower!

Kaspersky’s “Quick Scan” didn’t find every malicious sample I hid on my system, but since the “Quick Scan” only looks in critical areas — such as those loaded when your OS starts up — this was to be expected.

That said, because the “Quick Scan”  found around 50% of the samples, Kaspersky immediately suggested I complete a “Full Scan” to look deeper into my system, which I did next.

The “Full Scan” took around 45 minutes, beating Bitdefender’s 1-hour scan time. Kaspersky’s scan results were excellent — the scanner found every single malware sample on my system. Also, while Kaspersky was scanning my system, I didn’t notice any system slowdown — I still was able to use my computer at normal speeds.

When the scan was complete, I could see all of the detected malware files in the “Quarantine” window.

Despite quarantining and deleting the infections, Kaspersky still gives you the option to restore them. While most users wouldn’t want to do that, this option allows you to restore legitimate files that shouldn’t have ever been removed. However, during my tests, Kaspersky didn’t give me any false positives.

If you cancel the scan early, Kaspersky won’t resolve any detected malware, and notifications will repeatedly warn you about it. However, you can go to the “Notification Center” where you’ll be given more options for dealing with the malware from the interrupted scan.

Next, I tested Kaspersky’s real-time protection. It operates silently in the background 24/7, scanning the apps you install or open on your device and checking them against Kaspersky’s virus database.

The real-time protection performed excellently in my tests, instantly blocking all of the malware samples I tried downloading to my computer. Whenever Kaspersky detected a threat, it notified me that it had detected malware. I could then either opt to see more details about the malware or instantly remove it from my PC.

I then ran a ransomware simulator, and it wasn’t able to lock a single file before Kaspersky’s real-time protection stopped it.

Finally, I tested the “Vulnerability Scan” to look for unsecure applications on my system that could be targeted by hackers or malware.

The “Vulnerability Scan” only found two instances of outdated software on my computer, but I was impressed with how detailed the vulnerability report was. For example, the scanner detected an outdated Photoshop version and gave a full rundown on the vulnerabilities I exposed myself to — including when the vulnerability was detected, how hackers take advantage of the vulnerability, and how to resolve the issue. However, one downside is that Kaspersky doesn’t allow you to update apps from within the antivirus. Competitors such as Avira offer an auto-update feature that can quickly resolve all of the vulnerabilities on your system.

Overall, Kaspersky’s antivirus engine is really good — it has a 100% perfect detection rate, with several types of scans to choose from, excellent real-time protection, and it doesn’t slow down a system during a full system scan.

Web Protection

Kaspersky provides multi-layered web protection. Its “Web Anti-Virus” feature works together with the Kaspersky Protection browser extension to detect and block malicious and phishing urls.

The Web Anti-Virus feature compares the sites you visit against a database of malicious web addresses, and it also uses heuristic analysis to check urls for suspicious behavior.

The Kaspersky Protection browser extension — which is installed together with the software — also detects malicious links, and it also marks sites as safe/unsafe, blocks tracking and ads, and allows users to activate a virtual keyboard.

I tested the anti-phishing feature by installing the extension on Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. I visited known malicious websites, and Kaspersky blocked the vast majority of them. Kaspersky’s results were pretty good — although competitors like Norton and Bitdefender were slightly better at detecting all of my test links.

Kaspersky Protection’s anti-tracking feature blocks tracking from social networks, web analytics, web beacons, and ad agencies — but users can also choose to allow data collection on specific sites. While I do like this feature, I’m not too happy that the default settings allow Kaspersky and its partners (a total of 82 sites!) to gather user data. It’s fairly easy to block Kaspersky and its partners from collecting data, but I’d still like to see Kaspersky ask users whether or not they’re ok with this practice upon installing the extension.

From the browser extension, users can also open a virtual keyboard. Not a lot of competitors offer a virtual keyboard — Panda Dome has a virtual keyboard, but it’s not very good — so I think it’s really cool that Kaspersky provides additional protection against keyloggers.

Kaspersky’s virtual keyboard is best used in combination with Safe Money, a secure browser for online finances. Whenever you visit a banking or shopping site, Kaspersky asks you whether or not you want to add the site to Safe Money — and if you click on the Continue in Protected Browser button, Kaserpsky will open the site in Safe Money. I tested this feature on a number of banking sites, and Kaspersky asked me to add all of them to Safe Money. However, the secure browser took over 10 seconds to load each time, which is a bit annoying. Bitdefender also offers a secure browser, Safepay, which loads much faster than Kaspersky’s Safe Money.

Overall, Kaspersky’s web protection features are pretty good. The anti-phishing protection detected most of the phishing sites in my testing, and I also like that Kaspersky offers ad-blocking and anti-tracking — although I don’t like that anti-tracking is turned off for Kaspersky and its 80+ partner sites. I also think it’s really useful that Kaspersky has a secure browser and virtual keyboard for banking sites.

System Cleanup Tools

Kaspersky has several PC cleanup tools, including PC Cleaner, Unused Data Cleaner, and Privacy Cleaner.

Kaspersky’s PC Cleaner searches your system for applications and browser extensions you may either want to remove or fix. This includes programs you rarely use along with bloatware (software that came pre-installed on your computer).

I tested the PC Cleaner on my Windows 10 laptop. The cleaner took 2 minutes to analyze the system, and the results were really impressive.

The PC cleaner discovered all the prepackaged bloatware, and gave me options to remove, ignore, or do a Google search to find more information about each specific program.

With Kaspersky’s PC cleaner, you can easily choose the category of applications you want the PC cleaner to target, including apps that are installed without your consent, apps that slow down your startup time, or apps that show banners.

Kaspersky’s Unused Data Cleaner checks for log and temporary files, as well as for files in the Recycle Bin. This scan took less than 1 minute, and it found several unused files. Like with the PC Cleaner, the Unused Data Cleaner gives you several options of how to handle these files.

And finally, the Privacy Cleaner cleans browser history, cookies, and other traces of your online activity.

Kaspersky’s system cleanup tools are ok, but I’d like to see Kaspersky include more system optimization tools in its software. The program lets you postpone system scans when your battery is running low, or when your system’s CPU is at a high load, but that’s pretty much it. Competing antiviruses like Avira also include system speedup tools, a startup optimizer, and other advanced PC optimization tools. That said, some antiviruses like Sophos don’t even have system cleanup tools.

Overall, Kaspersky’s system cleanup features let you quickly and easily get rid of unwanted or unused files, or remove traces of your online activity. These tools aren’t the best on the market, but they work as promised, and they can even speed up your computer a bit.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Kaspersky’s free VPN comes bundled with all of Kaspersky’s plans (with a 200 MB daily limit). The free VPN only lets you connect to only one server. Unfortunately, even if you subscribe to Kaspersky’s highest-tier payment plan, you won’t get access to the VPN with unlimited browsing data. But if you like Kaspersky’s VPN, you can purchase the premium version of the VPN as an add-on.

Kaspersky’s premium VPN has:

  • Unlimited browsing data. No daily data limits.
  • Kill switch. Stops data transfer if the VPN is disrupted.
  • Smart Protection. Automatically starts the VPN when connected to a public network.
  • Servers in 25+ locations. Users can connect to any server, including the fastest one.

I was interested in seeing how both the free and premium VPN performed in speed tests. So, I ran a speed test on each of them. First, I ran a speed test with the VPN turned off, and then  with the VPN turned on.

Here are the results:

As you can see, with the free VPN running, my download speed was unaffected (it even increased a bit!). However, my ping and upload speed slowed down by over half. And this was noticeable when I tried to share files over P2P networks.

Next, here are the results on the premium version of the VPN, connected to Kaspersky’s fastest server:

Interestingly, my upload speed dropped even more on the premium VPN — but my ping was significantly lower, which was clear in my browsing speed. I could browse the internet without any noticeable difference in speed than when the VPN was switched off (and my download speed increased again, probably due to ISP throttling).

One reason people want to use VPNs is to access geo-restricted content like Netflix, but Netflix can detect a lot of VPNs and block them. During my tests, Kaspersky’s premium servers bypassed Netflix’s detection, so I could access content in the USA from Canada.

While the free VPN isn’t that good, the premium VPN is pretty good, with a decent number of servers worldwide, fast speeds, and access to geo-restricted streaming services. But it’s a separate purchase, and it doesn’t come included with Kaspersky’s main antivirus package.

Password Manager

Kaspersky’s password manager secures all of your passwords and other sensitive data — like bank cards, addresses, and notes — with 256-bit AES encryption and a strict zero-knowledge policy.

The free version of Kaspersky’s password manager lets users store only 15 passwords — which definitely isn’t enough for most users. The premium version of the password manager doesn’t have a limit on the number of passwords you can store. While Kaspersky’s premium password manager isn’t bad, I’m pretty disappointed that it’s only available with the most expensive plan.

When you first open Kaspersky’s password manager (which needs to be installed separately from the antivirus), you need to create a master password. If you ever lose this password, Kaspersky won’t be able to help you access your password vault. While I like that Kaspersky is a true zero-knowledge password manager, I’d like to see Kaspersky add account recovery options or emergency access, like Dashlane and LastPass have.

After you import all of your passwords, you’ll need to install a browser extension (available for Chrome, Firefox, Yandex, Edge, and Safari) to be able to auto-save and auto-fill passwords — during my tests, Kaspersky’s auto-save and auto-fill worked perfectly every time. But keep in mind that Kaspersky can only auto-fill bank cards and addresses on PCs and Macs, and not on mobile.

Kaspersky’s password vault is very simple to navigate. All of the features and options are clearly labeled and easily accessible. In addition to adding passwords (both for websites and applications), you can add banks cards, documents, addresses, and notes. Kaspersky also lets you organize your passwords into as many folders as you want.

Kaspersky has a good password generator that you can access both from the app and from the browser extension. The generator can create passwords 4-99 characters long, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. But there are no options to create passwords that are ‘easy to say’ or ‘easy to read’ — this is something that password managers like LastPass offer.

Kaspersky lacks a lot of other features that are included in many standalone password managers — including two-factor authentication (2FA), an automatic password changer, or encrypted cloud storage.

Overall, Kaspersky’s password manager is basic and lacks many features dedicated password managers have. But if you only need an easy-to-use, secure password manager for storing your passwords and other sensitive data, Kaspersky’s password manager is fine.

Parental Controls

Kaspersky’s parental controls (Safe Kids) are pretty good — they’re very intuitive and come with a lot of features that make it easy for you to protect your kids online.

Like the password manager, the parental controls are also downloaded as a separate app. Setup takes only a couple of minutes, and it also includes a quick tutorial as well as advice on how to talk with your children about parental controls and internet safety.

Here’s what’s included with Kaspersky’s Safe Kids:

  • Usage limitations.
  • Content filtering for sites and apps.
  • Social network monitoring (Facebook and VK).
  • Location tracking (Android and iOS only).

During my tests, I could easily set up weekly computer schedules, and I could also choose to block the test computer when the time limit was reached.

Kaspersky’s content filtering also worked pretty well — I could limit sites based on categories, but I could also set up exclusions. You can also enable Safe Search to prevent inappropriate content from appearing in search results on the most popular browsers, including Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex, and even YouTube.

There’s also an option to block apps based on categories (not available for iOS), as well as entertainment apps like games.

I tested the location tracking and geo-fencing features, and they were able to accurately track the location of my Android phone (and send alerts if the phone left the designated safe area).

And I’m pretty happy to see that Kaspersky Safe Kids includes social network monitoring —  most competing antiviruses with parental controls don’t have this feature.

Overall, Kaspersky’s parental controls are some of the most comprehensive on the market. Not only are they full-featured and easy to use, there’s even advice from Kaspersky on how to talk with a child about parental controls.

Additional Features

Kaspersky has a couple of extra tools, including:

  • Webcam protection.
  • Backup and Restore.
  • Rescue Disc.
  • Data encryption & shredder.
  • Gaming mode.

The webcam protection feature notified me any time I accessed an app that used my laptop’s webcam, like Skype or Zoom. While I appreciate that Kaspersky offers this additional layer of protection against spyware, I’d also like to see microphone protection included as well — competitors like Bitdefender offer both webcam and microphone protection in their plans.

Backup and Restore lets users back up files to a removable drive or online cloud service — you can either use Dropbox (default option) or connect Kaspersky with another service. However, I don’t think this feature adds a lot of value, as Dropbox gives all users 2 GB storage space for free, after which you’d need to upgrade to get more storage space. While I think it’s ok that Kaspersky offers a backup option, there are better ones out there (like Norton, which offers more storage space and doesn’t make you subscribe to another service).

Kaspersky’s Rescue Disc feature is pretty useful — it helps to clean up a computer infected with malware upon startup. To use this feature, you need to download Kaspersky Rescue Disc and upload it to a USB or CD/DVD, which you’ll then use to disinfect your PC. There are a couple other antiviruses that offer this — like ESET and Panda.

Data encryption lets you create a secure vault for sensitive files that you can only open with a password. And the data shredder allows you to permanently delete files.

Finally, the gaming mode pauses scans and notifications during gameplay or whenever you open an app in full-screen mode. Kaspersky’s gaming mode is ok, but BullGuard is better — it offers a specialized game booster that actually improves performance during gameplay.

Kaspersky’s additional tools are pretty decent, but I’d also like to see the company add advanced tools like dark web monitoring and identity theft protection to its premium plans. Top competitors like Norton and McAfee offer dark web monitoring and identity theft for US users, while antiviruses like TotalAV and BullGuard expand identity theft protection to also include users in Canada and most of Europe.

But I do appreciate that Kaspersky offers a couple of useful extras, especially considering that most antiviruses only offer basic antivirus and internet security protection. While I don’t think Kaspersky’s Backup and Restore feature is too useful, I like the Rescue Disc functionality that lets you save critically infected computers.

Kaspersky Plans and Pricing

Kaspersky offers 3 packages, and given the number of features each package includes, they’re quite reasonably priced.

The available packages are:

With Kaspersky Anti-Virus, you can choose if you want protection on 3, 5, or 10 Windows computers. Kaspersky Internet Security covers 3, 5, or 10 Windows, Mac, or Android devices. And Kaspersky Total Security can protect 5 or 10 Windows, Mac, Android, or iOS devices.

Unfortunately, there’s no free product in Kaspersky’s main antivirus product line. However, a discontinued product called Kaspersky Anti-Virus Free has been repackaged as Kaspersky Security Cloud Free. It doesn’t offer many of the features mentioned in this review, but it does have basic antivirus protection and a limited VPN.

Here are the packages offered in Kaspersky’s main antivirus line:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus — Entry-Level Plan (Windows Only)

This is Kaspersky’s most basic paid plan that only covers Windows devices. It has:

  • Real-time protection
  • Anti-phishing protection.
  • System tuneup tools.
  • Free VPN (200 MB daily limit).
  • Free password manager (stores up to 15 passwords).
  • Rescue Disc.

If you’re looking for a lightweight, easy-to-use Windows antivirus product, Kaspersky Anti-Virus is a decent, low-cost choice.

Kaspersky Internet Security — Best-value plan for most users

Kaspersky’s mid-tier plan works on Windows, Mac, and Android devices, and it offers all of the features mentioned above, plus:

  • Secure web browser.
  • Webcam protection.
  • Ad and tracking link blocker.
  • Free parental controls (content filtering and device usage).

Kaspersky Internet Security adds a couple of important features for only a little more than the entry-level Anti-Virus plan, plus it offers protection for Windows, Mac, and Android.

Kaspersky Total Security — Advanced plan with strong extras

This is Kaspersky’s premium package that covers Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS, and it includes all of the features from the previous plan, plus:

  • Parental controls (premium version).
  • Password manager (premium version).
  • Backup and Restore.
  • Data encryption (Windows only).

Kaspersky’s password manager is an ok addition to an already comprehensive internet security suite, and the parental controls are among the best on the market.

Overall, Kaspersky Total Security is a good choice for users looking for a strong antivirus alongside excellent parental controls and a basic password manager.

Kaspersky Ease of Use and Setup

Kaspersky is straightforward to install and set up.

Kaspersky’s user interface is very clean. Its main features, such as the antivirus scanner, secure browser, and password manager, are all accessible through large, clearly marked buttons. If you only want the most basic features from this antivirus, Kaspersky’s very simple to use.

What’s interesting is that Kaspersky only shows you the features that are available to you. For example, if you have a bottom-tier plan, there are no greyed-out features or upgrade prompts. This is great because Kaspersky makes every package feel complete.

That said, some of Kaspersky’s tools can be difficult to find. For example, to use the PC Cleaner, you have to click on More Tools, Clean and Optimize, and then PC Cleaner. With that, if you don’t know the tool is included, you may never see it. I’d like to have seen a side-bar like the one TotalAV uses, making everything available easy to access.

Once you get used to Kaspersky’s UI, however, it’s very organized. There are even ways to customize your experience. Most features have small settings icons next to them that allow you to control various options. For example, those in Kaspersky’s “Quick Scan.”

One area I particularly like is the Notification Center, which can be accessed from the main Kaspersky window. It shows you critical information and allows you to decide what to do with it.

The Notification Center makes the essential functions simple to turn on or off. Many antiviruses with a notification center simply alert you to something being disabled and take you to the relevant tool when you click on it. On Kaspersky, you can quickly resolve security issues without having to leave the Notification Center.

Kaspersky’s layout takes a little getting used to, but once you do get used to it, it’s really quick to navigate and easy to use. And I love that the customization options give you full freedom, making for a great interface that feels complete no matter which plan you choose.

Kaspersky Mobile App

Kaspersky offers a complete internet security app for Android. iOS users, on the other hand, only get access to basic security features, the parental controls, password manager, and VPN.

Security Cloud for iOS has:

  • Adaptive security. Changes settings based on user behavior. For example, connecting to a public network will automatically activate the VPN.
  • Security live. Fixes weak settings in your iOS. For example, a vulnerability in the OS due to jailbreaking.
  • Account check. Checks your email for data breaches.

It also comes with a QR scanner.

The Android app offers far more features. I tested the Android app on my Huawei P30 Lite.

Kaspersky’s Android mobile app has:

  • Antivirus scanner.
  • Call blocker.
  • Anti-theft.
  • Real-time protection.
  • App lock.
  • Anti-smishing (SMS phishing).
  • Browsing protection.

The antivirus scanner can be started with one tap from within the application. You can perform the following scans:

  • Quick scan. Scan installed apps for malware.
  • Full scan. Scan entire device for malware.
  • Folder scan. Scan a selected folder.

I hid 80 malware samples on my phone and ran a full scan.

Kaspersky detected every malware file in less than 5 minutes and automatically quarantined them.

The app’s real-time protection also worked really well. It detected all of the malware traces I tried putting on my phone and even stopped me from downloading dangerous apps on the Google Play Store. This is a convenient feature, but I must admit, I much prefer Norton’s Mobile Security App Advisor, which can warn you about apps before you download them.

Even so, Kaspersky still intercepted dangerous app downloads and immediately quarantined them, keeping my device protected.

The Kaspersky mobile app also offers free anti-theft protection. You need to make a Kaspersky account for it to work, as using it requires you to log into the My Kaspersky online hub.

Once you log into the My Kaspersky online hub, you get 4 anti-theft features — including the ability to lock or wipe the device, sound an alarm, and capture an image of the person using your lost or stolen device.

Kaspersky’s anti-theft tool also lets you block your device if a thief inserts a new SIM into the phone. What’s more is that you can also protect the Kaspersky app from being uninstalled. These are two excellent ways to create a strong anti-theft shield.

Finally, I tested Kaspersky’s VPN. I was disappointed with Kaspersky’s free VPN on PC, so I was quite eager to try the mobile version.

As before, I connected to Kaspersky’s free server — which comes with a 200MB daily limit — and ran a speed test, making sure I had mobile data switched off so it wouldn’t interfere.

Here are the results:

As you can see, there is a bit of a slowdown in download speeds and ping, but my upload speeds didn’t slow down nearly as much as the PC version of the VPN.

Since I had the premium VPN on PC, I could also connect to the premium VPN on mobile. Here are my test results:

This is a pretty good result — both download and upload speeds stayed about the same.

Overall, the Kaspersky mobile app isn’t the most in-depth I’ve seen. It lacks many features competitors like Avira have, such as performance optimization features, network scanner, and identity protection. But Kaspersky’s mobile app isn’t bad — the scanner had perfect detection rates in my testing, and the anti-theft tools are some of the best around.

Kaspersky Customer Support

Kaspersky has 4 different options for customer support, including:

  • Email support.
  • 24/hour live chat.
  • Phone support.
  • Knowledge base.

It was a little hard to navigate Kaspersky’s customer support, and it felt as if the company wanted me to use the knowledge base and community answers instead of contacting a representative.

Kaspersky’s desktop app has a support button on its main page, but when you click on it, all you get is a pop-up window:

There’s no way in the application to contact a representative or to access Kaspersky’s knowledge base. I actually had to search for the knowledge base on Google to access it.

But that’s not all.

On Kaspersky’s communication channels, I chose to contact customer support via phone, and instead of giving me a phone number, the site took me to another form to fill out.

I filled that form out… and then I was given another prompt asking if I was sure I wanted to contact support!

Luckily, when I eventually did fill out all of the forms and got to Kaspersky’s phone number, they answered me quickly and were able to resolve my problem.

I had to fill out the same forms to access Kaspersky’s live support, but I connected with an agent in around two minutes. The customer support agent was really friendly and solved all of my issues.

I also tested Kasperksky email support. I sent an email saying I was having problems updating the desktop application. Their response came in just over a day, which is pretty standard for email support.

The customer support team was able to help me, and spoke about my concern directly, but I was a little surprised they didn’t call me by name. Being known as “customer” over email felt very impersonal and unwelcoming despite being a direct support ticket.

That said, once Kaspersky had emailed me once, they started getting back to me much more quickly. The representative knew what he was talking about and was able to help me quickly and effectively resolve my issue.

Overall, getting in touch with Kaspersky requires more work than other antiviruses I’ve tested, but it makes it worthwhile not having to explain my issues to the support agents. Thanks to the forms, the customer support agents have the exact details they need when you reach out to them and can provide quick solutions.

Is Kaspersky a Safe Antivirus?

Yes, Kaspersky is a safe antivirus. Kaspersky was involved in a serious scandal a couple of years ago — while the company denied collaborating with the Russian government, the accusations damaged Kaspersky’s reputation. But Kaspersky has since started its Global Transparency initiative in an effort to restore both its reputation and the trust of its users.

Kaspersky’s perfect malware detection rates are on par with some of the biggest names in the cybersecurity industry, including Norton, McAfee, and Bitdefender. Kaspersky also has pretty good web protection features, including decent anti-phishing protection and extras like a secure browser, virtual keyboard, and anti-tracking protection.

Kaspersky also comes with a range of additional tools, including system cleanup tools, a VPN, a password manager, parental controls, file encryption and shredding, file backup, and a Rescue Disc which helps clean infected computers.

I really like Kaspersky’s parental controls, allowing parents to set up usage schedules, content filters, location tracking, and social media monitoring. The parental controls also have geofencing, alerting users when a child leaves a predefined safe zone.

Kaspersky lacks some of the features I want to see in a premium internet security package — like dark web monitoring, identity theft protection, and a more full-featured VPN (all things Norton 360 has). And I was pretty disappointed with Kaspersky’s customer support — finding a way to contact a customer support representative is way too difficult and time-consuming.

Overall, Kaspersky is a good product, with excellent malware detection rates, lots of useful and well-made features, an intuitive dashboard, transparent company practices, and reasonable prices. If you’re interested in Kaspersky, you can try out the company’s plans with a risk-free money-back guarantee for 14 (UK users) or 30 (US users) days.

Frequently Asked Questions about Kaspersky Antivirus

Can Kaspersky be trusted?

Absolutely! Kaspersky faced controversy in 2017 following allegations that it had links with the Russian government. But since then, Kasperksy has been working hard to show users it can be trusted through its Kaspersky Global Transparency initiative — which provides exact information regarding Kaspersky’ source code, threat detection rules, and data collection processes. Kaspersky also passed the Service Organization Control for Service Organizations (SOC 2) Type 1 audit in 2019.

Can Kaspersky detect malware?

Yes, Kaspersky is excellent at detecting malware. I thoroughly tested Kaspersky’s malware scanner after hiding nearly 1,000 samples on my Windows computer and Kaspersky’s full system scan detected all of the test malware. Kaspersky’s real-time protection is also excellent, blocking all of the test malware before I could download any of it onto my computer.

Which Kaspersky version should I buy?

Kaspersky has 3 different payment plans, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Kaspersky Internet Security, and Kaspersky Total Security.

Kaspersky Total Security is the best choice for most users looking for a comprehensive internet security suite with a password manager and parental controls. However, if you don’t need a password manager and parental controls, Internet Security is just fine (but it doesn’t cover iOS). Users looking for basic antivirus protection for Windows should check out Kaspersky Anti-Virus.

Is Kaspersky banned in the US?

Kaspersky isn’t banned in the US for personal use. However, in 2017, former US president Donald Trump banned the use of all Kaspersky products within the US government. Kaspersky, on the other hand, denied giving information to the Russian government or collaborating with any other government. To regain the trust of its users, Kaspersky started its Global Transparency Initiative, allowing governments and partners to review its source code, learn more about its data collecting and processing practices, and more.

Kaspersky Internet Security

Kaspersky Internet Security (often abbreviated to KIS) is an internet security suite developed by Kaspersky Lab compatible with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. KIS offers protection from malware, as well as email spam, phishing and hacking attempts, and data leaks. Kaspersky Lab Diagnostics results are distributed to relevant developers through the MIT License.

Windows edition[edit]

Version 2007 (6.0)[edit]

Version 6.0 was the first release of KIS.[3]PC World magazine praised version 6.0's detection of malware. KIS detected 100 percent of threats on a subset of the January 2006 wild-list, a list of prevalent threats. The suite detected almost 100 (99.57%) percent of adware samples. KIS has the ability to scan within compressed or packed files, detecting 83.3 percent of the "hidden" malware. However, version 6.0 was criticized for not completely removing malware by leaving Registry entries and files. PC World also highlighted the suite's false positives — eight of 20,000 clean files were incorrectly flagged as malicious — and its noticeable impact on computer performance. However, data is cached from each scan, making each subsequent scan faster. The firewall blocked all attacks from inside and outside the computer when tested.[4]

The magazine found the graphical user interface to be awkward to navigate. Features such as parental controls and instant messaging protection, found in competing suites from Symantec and McAfee, were not a part of version 6.0. Both CNET and PC World criticized the suite's relatively high retail price, US$79.95.

KIS 6.0 supports Windows 98 SE, ME, NT Workstation 4.0, 2000 Professional, XP Home Edition, XP Professional, XP Professional x64, and Vista. 50 megabytes of free space, Internet Explorer 5.5, and Windows Installer 2.0 are required. RAM and CPU requirements are dependent on the operating system.[5]

Version 2008 (7.0)[edit]

Version 7.0 introduced a redesigned GUI. Components were renamed and reorganized; the Anti-hacker module was renamed to the Firewall, and the Anti-Spy module was integrated with the Privacy Control module. PC World described the new interface as "intuitive" and "great-looking".[6]

Parental controls were introduced, with specific settings for different age categories, such as "child" or "parent". Within age categories are content categories, such as drugs or violence. Users can manually configure profiles. Filtering profiles can be associated with users. Since content is filtered at the network level, the feature will work with any Internet browser. The filter relies on a database of known URLs and can analyse websites in real-time. Attempts to access forbidden URLs are logged, and sites visited are tracked as well, raising privacy issues. Limits on Internet access may be set based on time, and chat rooms along with webmail sites can be manually blocked.[7]

Spam filtering integrates with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and The Bat!. E-mail content is analysed and scored, and e-mail with scores above two specified thresholds are either marked as "!!spam" or "??probably spam". The Mail Dispatcher feature shows subject and sender information for messages, and allows users to avoid downloading blatant spam by selecting which messages to download. The filter self-trains by analyzing incoming and outgoing e-mail not marked as spam, or by analyzing folders only containing spam or valid e-mail. Senders of verified valid e-mail are whitelisted. E-mail can also be whitelisted or blacklisted based on phrases present in the text. E-mail with non-ASCII characters or invisible text can also be blocked. However, version 7.0 had a relatively poor showing, misidentifying 30 percent of valid messages in PC Magazine testing. 30 percent of spam also made to the inbox.[7]

Protection against data leaks was incorporated in this release. The suite warns users when programs attempt to access or send data from certain areas, such as where Internet Explorer stores webform information.[6]

Malware protection was mostly positive in detection and disinfection tests by AV-Test.org. Version 7.0 detected 100 percent of wildlist threats. Using one-month-old signatures and a set of new malware, however, detection fell to 14 percent. Files were scanned at 5.24 megabytes per second. Version 7.0 successfully identified all six actively running rootkits, four of six inactive rootkits, and was only able to remove two of six rootkits. The firewall correctly blocked all attempted outside connections, with a reasonable level of security when left on default settings.[6]

This version drops support for the Windows 98, 2000, and NT. Windows XP Service Pack 2 is required, except in the case of XP Professional x64 edition. Vista is supported as well. RAM and CPU requirements are dependent on the operating system. 75 megabytes of free space, Internet Explorer 5.5, and Windows Installer 2.0.

Version 2009 (8.0)[edit]

This version introduces a revised user interface, an application filtering module, an updated anti-virus engine, and a vulnerability scanner.[8] The main window separates settings in four categories, compared to eight in its predecessor. A status bar changes colour (green, yellow, and red) to reflect overall program status and flashes to divert attention when needed. PC Magazine also noted pop-up notifications were kept to a minimum.[9]

Kaspersky claims the core anti-virus engine was revised to increase scan speed. PC Magazine found an initial scan took over two hours, however subsequent scans took two minutes to complete. However, malware detection was relatively low in comparison to other anti-virus applications tested. Out of 650 thousand samples, version 8.0 detected 95.6 percent. The top score was around 99 percent. Using two-week-old signatures, version 8.0 detected 52 percent of viruses in a different set of samples. Kaspersky also blocked about 60 percent of malware based solely on behaviour. The top performers scored 55.3 percent and 80 percent respectively. Version 2009 detected 98.1 percent of adware. However, PC World noted to achieve that kind of performance, users will have to modify program settings. On default settings, KIS allowed Zango to install. To block the installation, users must enable KIS to scan for "other malware".[10]

The Security Analyzer looks for operating system and program patches. It also looks for vulnerable system settings, presenting users with a list of recommended actions to prevent malware from gaining access to a system. However, PC World criticized the amount of computer jargon used and lack of information about how adjust settings appropriately.[citation needed] On the other hand, PC Magazine found the feature straightforward, and often the solution involved downloading and installing an update.[11]

KIS uses a whitelist by Carbon Black to classify trusted and malicious programs. Malicious programs are not allowed to run at all. Unknown programs falling in between the two categories are restricted in the actions they can perform. Its firewall blocked all attacks in PC Magazine testing. Phishing protection was introduced in this release. Testing by PC Magazine found the feature blocked 44 percent of phishing URLs. Internet Explorer 7 blocked 67 percent of the URLs, and Mozilla Firefox blocked 81 percent.[12]

Spam filtering now integrates with Mozilla Thunderbird and scans NNTP traffic. Spam can be automatically diverted to its own folder. When using an unsupported e-mail client to download POP3, IMAP or NNTP mail, Kaspersky will still generate a report of all messages. However, in an unsupported client, there will be no toolbar nor will the program classify any messages as spam in the client itself.

Version 2010 (9.0)[edit]

Version 2010 of Kaspersky Internet Security introduced an overhauled user interface and a sandbox for running applications in a virtualized environment. The 9.0.0.736 build of KIS 2010 fully supported the Windows 7 operating system.[13]

Version 2011 (11.0)[edit]

The beta version was released for all windows users on 8 June 2010. This version included a new interface, as well as a gadget only available for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users.[14] PC Mag rated this version "very good" (4/5 stars). Its firewall was noted to be very good, but that made up for its only adequate malware detection rates.[15] Two critical fixes have been released by Kaspersky Lab, making the current version 11.0.2.556.[16]

Version 2012 (12.0)[edit]

On 1 March 2011, Kaspersky released the first build of version 2012, it came out as beta version and in English, French and Russian version, with more versions due out later.[17] On 7 June 2011 Kaspersky Lab announced the commercial release of Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 in France, Germany, Switzerland. The current version is 12.0.0.374.[18]

Version 2013 (13.0)[edit]

The beta version was released for all windows users on 3 March 2012. This version includes an interface which looks (currently, at least) much like Internet Security 2012. There is no Safe Run option, no Proactive Defense, while instead the behavioural monitoring System Watcher seems to be taking greater responsibility for detecting malware and a Safe Banking feature has been added.

The release candidate (build 13.0.1.4088 RC) was released for all windows users on 20 July 2012.

The Final Version was released on 28 August 2012 build 13.0.1.4190

Version 2014 (14.0)[edit]

Beta testing started on 12 March 2013.[19] This version introduced a Windows 8 like GUI design. The final version was released on 3 August 2013 build 14.0.0.4651 in India and Russia, then on August 13 in the USA and August 27 in the UK. The 2014 release was frequently characterized as inferior to user expectations, largely due to its removal of a range of granular fine-tuning options in 2013 and earlier, which were used by experienced users; a number of these were added back in the 2015 beta by the time of its technical release (build 463).

Controversies regarding security[edit]

In March 2015, Bloomberg accused Kaspersky of having close ties to Russian military and intelligence officials.[21] Kaspersky slammed the claims in his blog, calling the coverage "sensationalist" and guilty of "exploiting paranoia" to "increase readership".[22]

As a result of alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential Election and ongoing investigations, the Department of Homeland Security officially banned the use of the Kaspersky Internet Security by the United States federal government in September, 2017.[23]

As of December 12, 2017, the use of Kaspersky software is banned from use by the American federal government by law.[24]

Improved--Emerging Threat Detection

Thousands of new Internet threats emerge daily, so complete protection requires more than updates to your antivirus databases. Kaspersky technologies proactively seek out suspicious activity on your system, blocking dangerous actions before they can cause any harm.

New--Safe Surf

Delivers unparalleled online security, so you'll never stumble onto dangerous or offensive websites. Customize Safe Surf settings to alert you to "suspicious" sites, helping you make informed decisions about where to share your personal information.

New--System Watcher

Cutting-edge technology for proactive defense against emerging threats. System Watcher monitors and analyzes system activity to detect any dangerous behavior - without draining performance. Malicious actions can be rolled-back, preventing permanent damage.

New--Desktop Security Gadget

For quick access to your protection status and settings. Customizable buttons allow you to have the security features you use the most close-at-hand. And, you can drag and drop files onto the gadget for easy, on-the-spot virus scanning.

Improved--Urgent Detection System

Offers the ultimate real-time protection when you surf the web, use web mail or download files. Our global team of virus analysts can "red-flag" previously unknown malware within minutes of its inception, giving you the ultimate protection as new threats emerge.

Improved--Anti-Phishing Protection and Virtual Keyboard

Your digital identity and passwords are absolutely secure when you're shopping, banking or social networking online.

Improved--Safe Run

Provides an added layer of protection for running suspicious or unknown programs and websites. The Safe Run environment is completely walled-off from your data and PC settings, so you can "test drive" programs with total confidence that no harm will come to your system.

Improved--Advanced Parental Controls

New features keep your kids safe and responsible. Monitor, block and/or limit communications via email, IM and social networks. Block access to applications, games and websites. Even block the transfer of private data such as phone and credit card numbers.

Improved--Anti-Spam and Two-Way Firewall

Keeps hackers and annoying, potentially dangerous spam from infiltrating your system. New, leading anti-spam technology filters the good from the bad, and trains itself to block spam based on your email habits.

Application Control

Uses real-time threat intelligence to determine security privileges for every application you launch - without impacting system performance. Unknown or suspicious applications are watched or restricted from certain potentially-harmful actions. And potentially dangerous applications are completely blocked from harming your system.

Vulnerability Detection

Finds vulnerable programs on your PC that haven't been updated with the latest fixes, and helps patch these holes in your protection before they can be exploited.

iChecker/iSwift Scanning Technologies

Kaspersky Lab technologies that help keep your system at maximum performance, while providing premium protection. Efficiently balances system scans to reduce activities while you're watching movies, surfing the web or toggling multiple programs. Our "smart scanning" knows to only scan files that have been opened or modified since the last scan, so your computer isn't wasting time with unnecessary activity.

Gamer Mode

With one-click, Gamer Mode automatically blocks pop-ups and reduces use of your PC's resources to a bare minimum. Games won't be interrupted or slowed, and Kaspersky will still flag any hackers or malware that tries to sneak onto your system.

Installation on Severely Infected PCs

If your PC is so severely infected that no software can be installed on it, Kaspersky will prompt you to download a proprietary tool to scan and eliminate all threats on your machine. You can then quickly and easily proceed with the product's installation to ensure you're never crippled by malware again.

Network Attack Blocker

Scans incoming network traffic for activities that are characteristic of a network attack. If an attempt to attack your computer is detected, Kaspersky blocks any and all network activity from the attacking computer.

New Key Compatibility Table

There are two fundamentally different ways to activate:

The key. Offline, without notifying anyone about the fact of activation.
Activation code. Online, with the permission of the activation server.
From the developer's point of view, online activation is preferable, as it allows you to monitor and control the activation process. Starting with version 2010, products have deliberately made it difficult for the user to activate with a key.

1. To activate KAV / KIS 2010-2012 key:

Make the activation web server unavailable for the product.
For example, disconnect your internet connection during activation.

In the activation wizard, select Activate trial version.
If there is no such item, select Activate commercial version and enter one of the following activation codes:
AAAAA-AAAAA-AAAAA-AAAA3
AXFRG-JW6EC-47MP1-HV4EE
GUMQ9-UCPZ5-G4AQ8-D7F6E
KF552-Q7ZG1-EXPK9-QVCDG
M3VDA-PUUC2-9ZZMV-1ST4V

For 13 enter the code 22222-22222-22222-2222U

Try to follow the activation procedure.
An attempt to connect to the activation server will fail and you will be allowed to activate the product with a key.

2. Using an alternative graphical shell, allowing explicit activation with a key, especially since many of them are more convenient than the original, not only for this reason.

Archived with keys - Keys manager v.0.52

What the Key manager does:

To find blocked keys, the Key manager program uses a blacklist that represents an element of Kaspersky Lab anti-virus signatures (namely the black.lst file). The black list is frequently updated, and in order to detect blocked keys of Kaspersky, the Key manager program must have an up-to-date version of the black.lst file at its disposal. At the time of loading, the program looks at 3 blacklist sources:
- the file black.lst embedded in the program;
- black list of current anti-virus databases;
- the blacklist file in the program folder (if it is there) and selects the most recent one.

Reset activation when settings are locked (new method):

1. Unload the anti-virus program.
2. Run from archive PC Hunter(in accordance with the bitness of the OS), select the Registry tab - the registry will open).
3. Change the value from 1 to 0 of the EnableSelfProtection parameter (right mouse button - Modify). We are looking for the parameter in the branch:
- OS x64 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ WOW6432Node \ KasperskyLab \ AVP16.0.1 \ settings
- OS x32 - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ KasperskyLab \ AVP16.0.1 \ settings
4. Start the anti-virus program.
5. Unload the anti-virus program.
6. Launch KRT, in the settings uncheck the "Select optimal settings automatically" option and set the "Restart computer" option, click "Apply".
7. Reset activation. After restarting the computer, all anti-virus program settings, as well as the "Activate trial version" function, will become available.

Limitations and warnings

Kaspersky Internet Security has a number of limitations that are not critical to operation of the application.

Limitations on the operation of certain components and automatic processing of files

Infected files and malicious links are processed automatically according to rules created by Kaspersky specialists. You cannot modify these rules manually. Rules can be updated following an update of databases and application modules. The rules for Firewall, Webcam Protection, Application Manager, Software Cleaner, Application Control, and Trusted Applications mode are also updated automatically.

If a device scan is started from My Kaspersky, files will be processed automatically based on the rules specified in the application. Files detected on a device can be processed automatically by request from My Kaspersky without your confirmation, even if interactive protection is enabled in the application.

Special considerations for file processing in interactive protection mode

If an infected file is part of an app from Windows Store, in interactive protection mode the application displays a notification prompting you to delete that file. The Disinfect action is not available.

Limitations on connection to Kaspersky Security Network

During its operation, the application may query Kaspersky Security Network for information. If data from Kaspersky Security Network could not be retrieved, the application makes decisions based on local anti-virus databases.

Limitations of System Watcher functionality

Protection against cryptors (malware that encrypts user files) has the following limitations:

  • The Temp system folder is used to support this functionality. If the system drive with the Temp folder has insufficient disk space to create temporary files, protection against cryptors is not provided. In this case, the application does not display a notification that files are not backed up (protection is not provided).
  • Temporary files are deleted automatically when you close Kaspersky Internet Security or disable the System Watcher component.
  • In case of an emergency termination of Kaspersky Internet Security, temporary files are not deleted automatically. To delete temporary files, clear the Temp folder manually. To do so, open the Run window (Run command under Windows XP) and in the Open field type . Click OK.
  • Protection against encryptors is provided only for files that are located on data drives that have been formatted with the NTFS file system.
  • The number of files that can be restored cannot exceed 50 per one encryption process.
  • The total volume of modifications to files cannot exceed 100 MB. Files with modifications that exceed this limit cannot be restored.
  • File modifications initiated via network interface are not monitored.
  • Files encrypted with EFS are not supported.
  • You must restart the computer to enable protection against encryptors after Kaspersky Internet Security is installed.

Encrypted connections scan limitations

Due to technical limitations of the implementation of scanning algorithms, scanning of encrypted connections does not support certain extensions of the TLS 1.0 protocol and later versions (particularly NPN and ALPN). Connections via these protocols may be limited. Browsers with SPDY protocol support use the HTTP over TLS protocol instead of SPDY even if the server to which the connection is established supports SPDY. This does not affect the level of connection security. If the server supports only the SPDY protocol and it is impossible to establish the connection via the HTTPS protocol, the application does not monitor the connection established.

Kaspersky Internet Security does not support processing of HTTPS/2 Proxy traffic. The application does not process traffic transmitted via extensions of the HTTP/2 protocol.

Kaspersky Internet Security prevents data exchange over the QUIC protocol. Browsers use a standard transport protocol (TLS or SSL) regardless of whether or not support for the QUIC protocol is enabled in the browser.

Kaspersky Internet Security monitors only those protected connection which it is able to decrypt. The application does not monitor connections added to the list of exclusions (Websites link in the Network settings window).

The following components perform decryption and scanning of encrypted traffic by default:

  • Web Anti-Virus
  • Safe Money
  • URL Advisor
  • Parental Control

Kaspersky Internet Security decrypts encrypted traffic while the user is using the Google Chrome browser if the Kaspersky Protection extension is disabled in this browser.

Kaspersky Internet Security does not monitor traffic if the browser loads a web page or its elements from a local cache instead of from the Internet.

Limitations on encrypted connections scan exclusions

When scanning encrypted connections with websites that have been added to exclusions, certain components such as Anti-Banner, URL Advisor and Private Browsing may continue to scan encrypted connections. The Safe Money, Parental Control and Web Anti-Virus components do not scan websites that have been added to exclusions.

Anti-Spam limitations

Anti-Spam functionality can be configured by editing the settings file for the Anti-Spam component.

Specifics of kernel memory scanning for rootkits in Protected Browser mode

When an untrusted module is detected in Protected Browser mode, a new browser tab opens with a notification about malware detection. If this happens, you are recommended to exit the browser and run a Full Scan of the computer.

Specifics of clipboard data protection

Kaspersky Internet Security allows an application to access clipboard in the following cases:

  • An application with the active window attempts to place data in clipboard. The active window is the window that you are currently using.
  • A trusted process of an application attempts to place data in clipboard.
  • A trusted process of an application or a process with the active window attempts to receive data from clipboard.
  • An application process that previously placed data in clipboard attempts to receive this data from clipboard.

Specifics of infected file processing by application components

By default, the application can delete infected files that cannot be disinfected. Removal by default can be performed during file processing by such components as Application Control, Mail Anti-Virus, File Anti-Virus, during scan tasks, and also when System Watcher detects malicious activity of applications.

Limitations applicable to certain components in case of application installation together with Kaspersky Fraud Prevention for Endpoints

Operation of the following Kaspersky Internet Security components is limited in Protected Browser if the application is installed together with Kaspersky Fraud Prevention for Endpoints:

  • Web Anti-Virus, except Anti-Phishing
  • Parental Control
  • URL Advisor
  • Anti-Banner

Warning about changes in IM Anti-Virus and Parental Control functionality

Beginning with the 2016 version of Kaspersky Internet Security, the IM Anti-Virus component does not scan messages transmitted via the IRC protocol.

IM Anti-Virus supports only the following ICQ versions: ICQ 8 – ICQ 8.3. Later versions are not supported.

IM Anti-Virus supports only Mail.Ru Agent versions below 10.

Reports

The APT trends reports are based on our threat intelligence research and provide a representative snapshot of what we have discussed in greater detail in our private APT reports. This is our latest installment, focusing on activities that we observed during Q3 2021.

According to older public researches, Lyceum conducted operations against organizations in the energy and telecommunications sectors across the Middle East. In 2021, we have been able to identify a new cluster of the group’s activity, focused on two entities in Tunisia.

While investigating a recent rise of attacks against Exchange servers, we noticed a recurring cluster of activity that appeared in several distinct compromised networks. With a long-standing operation, high profile victims, advanced toolset and no affinity to a known threat actor, we decided to dub the cluster GhostEmperor.

We discovered a campaign delivering the Tomiris backdoor that shows a number of similarities with the Sunshuttle malware distributed by DarkHalo APT and target overlaps with Kazuar.

Activating Kaspersky 2013-2014 using Dump keys:

2. Open the antivirus and go to Setting -> Advanced -> Self-Defense if the 2013 version will be a little different, but the meaning is the same disable self-defense. And turn off the antivirus by right-clicking on the icon in the taskbar.

3, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives. Open in the previously unzipped folder DELtrial_14.exe and we agree to reset the trial, this program is suitable only for the 14th version of Kaspersky, for the 13th version, the reset of the trial can be done at the link above " Getting a 30-day trial version of kaspersky antivirus"One goal is to reset the trial.

4. Then, in the same folder, we look for dump keys on KAV on the folder, the end date is written, select the desired one and first enter the information into the register by clicking on setup.reg and then on Dump.exe in the same folder.

Well, all in principle, rejoice. If you have version 13 and nothing comes out, use the key keys, they are also in the archive, and above you can find another package of key files plus instructions on how to use them.

Video instruction for activating the program in this way

Activated Kaspersky in this way

Keys for Kaspersky are required to activate Kaspersky Lab products. License keys can be purchased on the official website of the company. Where to get an antivirus program and how to install it

It is better to download Kaspersky Lab programs from the official website of the company. But first, let's take a closer look at the names and abbreviations.

Abbreviated form of Kaspersky Anti-Virus - KAV. One of the first products of the company. Those who are older probably remember how he used to scream like a pig squeal when he discovered a virus. Its main task is to protect your computer from viruses.

Kaspersky Internet Security (Kaspersky Internet Security) in abbreviated form - KIS. Unlike KAV, it not only protects your computer from viruses, but also makes it safe to use the Internet. It blocks the interception of your Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, protects the input of passwords, blocks harmful scripts and websites, blocks pop-ups and performs many other useful functions. KIS can be installed both on a computer and on android devices.

Abbreviated form of Kaspersky Total Security - KTS. It is a relatively new product of the company. KTS differs from KIS in that it has the ability to manage all devices on which Kaspersky Total Security is installed through the "my kaspersky" portal, as well as several useful and easy-to-use additional functions.

These products offer the same protection against viruses and threats. The virus signatures and treatment technologies are the same. Even the set of components in the "Protection" tab is no different from each other. So any of these products will keep your device safe. I use kaspersky internet security.

How to install a Kaspersky application

To install the program, you need to download it. As I said at the very beginning, it is better to download from the official site, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives. Go to the kaspersky.com website and select the "download" section

Choose a product to download KAV, KIS or KTS. Click "download". For example, I chose Kaspersky Internet Security

Run the downloaded installation file and wait for the installation to complete.

After installation, we need to activate the program. To do this, press the button "Activate trial version of the program" and register the antivirus program for 30 days.

But what to do when the free period ends?

There are two options:

  1. Buy license key KAV, KIS or KTS
  2. Use free trial keys (we'll figure out how to do this below)

Keys for kaspersky, where to get them and how to use them

Not long ago, magazine keys were Avast premier 19.4 keygen, serial, crack, generator, unlock popular. These keys had a lifespan of 30 to 60 days. They were published in computer magazines such as "Chip", "ComputerBild" and "PC World". With each new issue of the magazine, fresh magazine keys came out. But unfortunately the freebie ended in early 2017.

Trial keys have replaced. What is a trial key? The trial key is a trial license for a period of 30 to 90 days. It is given for testing antivirus software. At the same time, the functionality of the program works in full. With these keys, you can use Kaspersky for free and officially.

To activate such keys, you must completely uninstall the program along with the license information (you can check the box when uninstalling) of the antivirus program. After downloading it from the official website, install and activate the trial key.

All that said, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, I still think Kaspersky Total Security is an overall good internet security suite.

Kaspersky ArcGIS Pro 10.8 Activation Code Archives also very easy to use, which makes it a particularly good choice for non-tech-savvy users.

When the scan detects something new and potentially malicious, the file is uploaded to Kaspersky’s cloud-based scanner for further analysis, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives. The Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives scanner then uses machine learning to identify whether or not the file is actually malware.

Scans every file, folder, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, and partitioned sector on your system.

To test Kaspersky, I hid nearly 1000 test malware samples on my computer, including viruses, trojans, rootkits, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, ransomware, and keyloggers. I then ran a “Quick Scan,” which only took 2 minutes to complete. This is pretty quick. For perspective, when I ran a Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives Scan” on VIPRE, it took 10 minutes — that’s 5 times slower!

Kaspersky’s “Quick Scan” didn’t find every malicious sample I hid on my system, but since the “Quick Scan” only looks in critical areas — such as those loaded when your OS starts up — this was to be expected.

That said, because the “Quick Scan” Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives around 50% of the samples, Kaspersky immediately suggested I complete a “Full Scan” to look deeper into my system, which I did next.

The “Full Scan” took around 45 minutes, beating Bitdefender’s 1-hour scan time. Kaspersky’s scan results were excellent — the scanner Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives every single malware sample on my system. Also, while Kaspersky was scanning my system, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives didn’t notice any system slowdown — I still was able to use my computer at normal speeds.

If you cancel the scan early, Kaspersky won’t resolve any detected malware, and notifications will repeatedly warn you about it, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives.

Overall, Kaspersky’s antivirus engine is really good — it has a 100% perfect detection rate, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, with several types of scans to choose from, excellent real-time protection, and it doesn’t slow down a system during a full system scan.

Visit Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives Protection

Kaspersky provides multi-layered web protection. Its “Web Anti-Virus” feature works together with the Kaspersky Protection browser extension to detect and block malicious and phishing urls.

The Web Anti-Virus feature compares the sites you visit against a database of malicious web addresses, and it also uses heuristic analysis to check urls for suspicious behavior.

The Kaspersky Protection browser extension — which is installed together with the software — also detects malicious links, and it also Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives sites as safe/unsafe, blocks tracking and ads, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, and allows users to activate a virtual keyboard.

I tested the anti-phishing feature by installing the extension on Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. I visited known malicious websites, and Kaspersky blocked the vast majority of them, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives.

Not a lot of competitors offer a Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives keyboard — Panda Dome has a virtual keyboard, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives it’s not very good — so I think it’s really cool that Kaspersky provides additional protection against keyloggers.

The anti-phishing protection detected most of the phishing sites in my testing, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, and I also like that Kaspersky offers ad-blocking and anti-tracking — although I don’t like that anti-tracking is turned off for Kaspersky and its 80+ partner sites.

With Kaspersky’s PC cleaner, you can easily choose the category of applications you want the PC cleaner to target, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, including apps that are installed without your consent, apps that Tag Archives: Windows 10 software down your startup time, or apps that show banners.

Overall, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, Kaspersky’s system cleanup features let you quickly and easily get rid of unwanted or unused files, or remove traces of your online activity.

However, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, my ping and upload speed slowed down by over half.

When you first open Kaspersky’s password manager (which needs to be installed separately VMware Workstation 15.5 Pro crack serial keygen the antivirus), you need to create a master password. If you ever lose this password, Kaspersky won’t be able to help you access your password vault. While I like that Kaspersky is a true zero-knowledge password manager, I’d like to see Kaspersky add account recovery options or emergency access, like Dashlane and LastPass have.

After you import all of your passwords, you’ll need to install a browser extension (available for Chrome, Firefox, Yandex, Edge, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, and Safari) to be able to auto-save and auto-fill passwords — during my tests, Kaspersky’s auto-save and auto-fill worked perfectly every time. But keep in mind that Kaspersky can only auto-fill bank cards and addresses on PCs and Macs, and not on mobile.

Kaspersky’s password vault is very simple to navigate. All of the features and options are clearly labeled and easily accessible. In addition to adding passwords (both for websites and applications), you can add banks cards, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, documents, addresses, and notes.

Kaspersky lacks a lot of other features that are included in many standalone password managers — including two-factor authentication (2FA), Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives automatic password changer, or encrypted cloud storage.

Kaspersky’s content filtering also worked pretty well — I could Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives sites based on categories, but I could also set up exclusions. You can also enable Safe Search to Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives inappropriate content from appearing in search results on the most popular browsers, including Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex, and even YouTube.

While I appreciate that Kaspersky offers this additional layer of protection against spyware, I’d also like to see microphone protection included as well — competitors Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives Bitdefender offer both webcam and microphone protection in their plans.

To use this feature, you need to download Kaspersky Rescue Disc Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives upload it to a USB or CD/DVD, which you’ll then use to disinfect your PC, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives.

Kaspersky’s gaming mode is ok, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, but BullGuard is better — it offers a specialized game booster that actually improves performance during gameplay.

Kaspersky’s additional tools are pretty decent, but I’d also like to see the company add advanced tools like dark web monitoring and identity theft protection to its premium plans. Top competitors like Norton and McAfee offer dark web monitoring and identity theft Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives US users, while antiviruses like TotalAV and BullGuard expand identity theft protection to also include users in Canada and most of Europe.

Kaspersky Internet Security covers 3, vray 4.20 crack Archives, or 10 Windows, Mac, or Android devices.

This is Kaspersky’s premium package that covers Windows, Mac, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, Android, and iOS, and it Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives all of the features from the previous plan, plus:

Kaspersky’s password manager is an ok addition to an already comprehensive internet security suite, and the parental controls Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives among the best on the market.

Security Cloud for iOS Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives security. Changes settings based on user behavior. For example, connecting to a public network will automatically activate the VPN.

  • Security live. Fixes weak settings in your iOS. For example, a vulnerability in the OS due to jailbreaking.
  • Account check. Checks your email for data breaches.
  • It also comes with a QR scanner.

The Android app offers far more features. I tested the Android app on my Huawei P30 Lite.

    Kaspersky’s Android mobile app has:

    • Antivirus scanner.
    • Call blocker.
    • Anti-theft, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives.

Even so, Kaspersky still intercepted dangerous app downloads and immediately quarantined them, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, keeping my device protected.

As before, I connected to Kaspersky’s free server — which comes with a 200MB daily limit — and ran a speed test, making sure I had Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives data switched off so it wouldn’t interfere.

    Here are the results:

As you can see, there is a bit of a slowdown in download speeds and ping, but my upload speeds didn’t slow down nearly as much as the PC version of the VPN.

Since Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives had the premium VPN on PC, I could also connect to the premium VPN on mobile. Here are my test results:

This is a pretty good result — both download and upload speeds stayed about the same.

Overall, the Kaspersky mobile app isn’t the most in-depth I’ve seen. It lacks many features competitors like Avira have, such as performance optimization features, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, network scanner, and identity protection.

I filled that form out… and Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives I was given another prompt asking if I was sure I wanted to contact support!

Overall, getting in touch with Kaspersky requires more work than other antiviruses I’ve tested, but it makes it worthwhile not having to explain my issues to the support agents, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives. Thanks to the forms, the customer support agents have the exact details they need when you reach out to them and can provide quick solutions.

    Is Kaspersky a Safe Antivirus?

Yes, Kaspersky is a safe antivirus. Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives was involved in a serious scandal a couple of years ago — while the company denied collaborating with the Russian government, the accusations damaged Kaspersky’s reputation.

Kaspersky also comes with a range of additional tools, including system cleanup tools, a VPN, a password manager, parental controls, file encryption and shredding, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, file backup, and a Rescue Disc which helps clean infected computers.

I really like Kaspersky’s parental controls, allowing parents to set up usage schedules, content filters, location tracking, and social media monitoring. The parental controls also have geofencing, alerting users when a child leaves a predefined safe zone.

Kaspersky lacks some of the features I want to see in a premium internet security package — like dark web monitoring, identity theft protection, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, and a more full-featured VPN (all things Norton 360 has). And I was pretty disappointed with Kaspersky’s customer support — finding a way to contact a customer support representative is way too difficult and time-consuming.

Overall, Kaspersky is a good product, with excellent malware detection rates, lots of Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives and well-made features, an intuitive dashboard, transparent company Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, and reasonable prices. If you’re interested in Kaspersky, you can try out the company’s plans with Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives risk-free money-back guarantee for 14 (UK users) or 30 (US users) days.

Kaspersky’s real-time protection is also excellent, Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives, blocking all of the test malware before I could download any of it onto my computer.

However, in 2017, former US president Donald Trump banned the use of all Kaspersky internet security 2020 latest Archives products within the US government. Kaspersky, on the other hand, denied giving information to the Russian government or collaborating with any other government. To regain the trust of its users, Kaspersky started its Global Transparency Initiative, allowing governments and partners to review its source code, learn more about its data collecting and processing practices, and more.
